Bernards Avenue, which is now under reconstruction, is considered one of the most heavily walked streets in town. Officials said the sidewalk project is needed for safety.
“The scope of the project may change, but basically we are installing a sidewalk on Bernards Avenue,’’ said Councilwoman Christine Zamarra in a Saturday, July 15 email in response to questions from this newspaper. “The state DOT supports it because they agree that it is needed to provide safe passage for pedestrians, so we will meet with neighbors to hear their concerns prior to finalizing the construction plan.’’
